Seventeen-year-old pop singer Daya released the music video for ”Sit Still, Look Pretty,” the single off her debut album ahead of its premiere on Oct. 7.
The song is an anthem with a feminist message: the video depicts Daya forced to sit on a pedestal and model various looks until she breaks free and turns the tables on the men staring at her.
“It’s a girl power anthem about how women can do anything men can do, and we shouldn’t let anyone stand in the way of that,” Daya told InStyle of the single. “I’ve always grown up with that knowledge, so I want to be sure to pass along that message. You should never be put into a mold based on your gender.”
As for the rest of her album, she told EW, “There’s less in-your-face pop, less driving beats. It’s more chill.”
