Tennyson - Cry Bird (Official Music Video)

Growing up is never hard, but try going through the trials of emergent adulthood while being Skrillex' new faves.

Tennyson are a brother-sister duo with an effortlessly unique approach to modern music. Both are fully-trained jazz musicians raised on world music and intellectual word views. Younger sister Tess, a recent high school graduate, is a maniac on the drums. Older brother Luke, about 21 these days, plays keys and sings. He's the main creative force in the band, and he recently spent some time in LA collaborating with various other electronic producers, among them OWSLA-head Skrillex who signed the duo almost immediately.

There's something overwhelmingly innocent and vibrant at the heart of Tennyson's sound. There's a childlike nature to it, but everyone gets older, and everyone faces new challenges. “Cry Bird,” the lead single from Tennyson's forthcoming OWSLA EP, catches the brother and sister somewhere between the rosy-hue of adolescence and the exciting albeit uncertain freedom of full-on adulthood.

It showcases a growing pop sensibility, opening with grand hopeful chords not unsuited for emotional, sing-along, radio chants. In true Tennyson fashion, there are rich layers of sound, percussion, and organic samples. It plays like a playground for the mind, and come halfway, all those groovy, jazzy, snappy elements shine through.

Cry Bird” is a happy song, available now on OWSLA. There's a fun little lyric video to go along with it. Those dancing wire drawings represent Luke and Tess respectively. Try not to dance along with them, and rest assured that everything is going to be just fine when you listen to “Cry Bird”. This article originally appeared in Billboard
